Applium commits to the SAP Sustainability solutions
Publié le 15/06/2023

SAP is developing its strategy “to enable every organization to become an intelligent and sustainable enterprise”, and Applium has decided to implement the “sustainability” dimension of this strategy in its SAP service offering. We are convinced that sustainability is no longer just a vision but a requirement at the core of business processes.

Regulatory Evolution

Sustainability is the next major transformation for our clients, and it is already taking shape, especially in the European Union but also in other parts of the world.

Regulators are becoming active to enforce the Paris Agreement, aiming to limit global warming well below 2 degrees Celsius compared to pre-industrial levels. As evidenced by recent legislative developments:

  • Holistic Management and Reporting: Many companies must meet the sustainability reporting requirements of common standards such as GRI, TCFD on a global level, CSRD, and the European Taxonomy in the EU. Since January 2023, the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) has come into effect, aligning with the European Taxonomy under the European Green Deal.
  • Climate Action / Decarbonization: The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is a new carbon regulation – a type of carbon pricing – aimed at helping the EU combat climate change. It emphasizes the need for high-carbon intensity industry companies to take measures and report carbon emissions. CBAM will enter its transitional phase starting from October 1, 2023.
  • Circular Economy – Plastic Tax Regulation: The global economy is only 7.2% circular, a decreasing percentage over recent years. Meanwhile, we are witnessing the introduction of plastic taxation regulations in many countries like the UK and Spain. On May 29, 2023, at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, nearly 1000 negotiators from 175 countries began the second working session towards adopting a new international treaty on plastic pollution.

The Need for Tool Adaptation

More and more companies need to:

    • transform their tools to transition to digitization and hyper-automation of their processes (such as transitioning to S/4HANA)
    • become more sustainable.

Many of the necessary data for compliance and management of sustainability aspects can be found in the solutions provided by SAP. Applium aims to support and assist in this transition.
